CONYERS, Ga. (Sept. 30, 2009) – As of Monday, Sept. 28, the Piedmont Heart Institute Physicians at Rockdale are practicing in a new location. Stephen Prater, M.D., Syed Shirazi, M.D., and Jeff Smith, M.D., will now see patients at their new at 1301 Sigman Road, Suite 200, Conyers, GA 30012. “We are excited to welcome our Rockdale patients to our new location,” said Charles L. Brown III, M.D., chief medical officer of Piedmont Heart Institute Physicians. “Doctors Prater, Shirazi and Smith will continue to bring their extensive medical knowledge and provide outstanding care to the Rockdale community.” Dr. Prater earned his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile, Ala. He then completed his residency in internal medicine as well as a fellowship in cardiology and clinical cardiac electrophysiology at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Prater is a member of the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology, and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He specializes in arrhythmia evaluation, electrophysiologic studies and pacemakers. Dr. Shirazi earned his medical degree from the King Edward Medical College in Pakistan. He then completed his internship at Grant Hospital in Chicago, and completed his residency at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center at Ohio State University in Dayton, Ohio. He then did a fellowship in cardiology at the Rush Medical School in Chicago. Dr. Shirazi is board certified in both internal medicine and cardiology. He is also a member of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians and the Medical Association of Atlanta. Dr. Shirazi practices consultative cardiology, cardiac catheterization and nuclear cardiology. Dr. Smith received his medical degree from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. He then completed his internship and residency at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center in West Reading, Pa. He also completed a fellowship in cardiology at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center in Orange County, Calif. Dr. Smith is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and is an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Corps. Drs. Prater, Shirazi and Smith accept most major insurance plans. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
