| Piedmont Heart Institute Welcomes Vascular Surgeons |

ATLANTA (Sept. 29, 2009) – Piedmont Heart Institute (PHI) is pleased to welcome three vascular surgeons to its family of physicians. Patrick M. Battey, M.D., Eyal Ben-Arie, M.D., and Robert W. Powers, Jr., M.D., of Piedmont Vascular Associates have joined Piedmont Heart Institute Physicians, effective September 29, 2009. Already members of the Piedmont Hospital medical staff, the surgeons will continue to offer the same high level of quality care to residents in greater Atlanta. “Doctors Battey, Ben-Arie and Powers will be invaluable additions to the exceptional cardiovascular expertise within the Piedmont Heart Institute,” said Michele Molden, president and CEO of Piedmont Heart Institute. “We are thrilled to welcome them to join in our pursuit of nationally acclaimed cardiovascular care, for the benefit of all those we serve.” Piedmont Heart Institute was established in 2007 and brings together more than 70 cardiovascular specialists in over 30 offices across north Georgia and the Fuqua Heart Center of Atlanta at Piedmont Hospital to propel new programs in cardiovascular research, education and excellence in prevention, arrhythmias, coronary and vascular intervention, cardiac surgery, stroke and cardiac imaging, as well as all other cardiovascular care components. Patrick M. Battey, M.D., earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in general surgery and fellowship in vascular surgery at Emory University affiliated hospitals. He is board certified in vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Battey has practiced at Piedmont Hospital since 1985. Eyal Ben-Arie, M.D., earned his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Piscataway, N.J. He then trained in general surgery at NYU Medical Center in New York, N.Y., and in vascular surgery at Emory University affiliated hospitals in Atlanta. He is board certified in vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Ben-Arie joined the Piedmont Hospital medical staff in 2007. Robert W. Powers, Jr., M.D., earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C. He then completed his internship and residency at Emory University affiliated hospitals and his fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He is board certified in vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Powers joined the Piedmont Hospital medical staff in 1982.
